He even left his servant and went a day`s journey into the desert, came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. His words : " I have had enough, Lord. Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." Then he laid down and went to sleep.
Later the Lord did speak to him. When Elijah was on the mountain, there was a great wind that tore the mountians apart and shattered the rocks.... and the Lord was not in the wind.... and after the wind there was an earthquake but, the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire came a gentle whisper, and when Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave..... and the Lord spoke to him.. 1Kings 19:11-13.
I think that this was his being "still" in the situation, and even in his discouragement God still took care of him, spoke to him, and I believe that He did get to know the Lord even in a deeper way. So .....
Personally, I don`t like emotional pain but, getting to know God better has more than we could ever dream.( and how God is close to the broken/contrite in spirit , Isaiah 57:15 )And we all know the rest of the story and what God did with Elijah ..... And we know how it all ends on a spectacular note ! Just my thoughts... :)LCnoreply@blogger.com
